Our Method for Handling Leak Calls

A practical inspection is where we begin. We will check the water meter and any visible pipe endpoints to see if we are dealing with an isolated incident or a galvanized service line on its way out. A minor leak can still be responsible for wasting gallons of water and leaving wet spots that hint at something hidden.

Accessible leaks can often be repaired directly. Where the pipe is on the surface and easy to get to, we can usually make the repair on the spot. With underground lines running under a driveway or through the yard, we have to determine if a localized fix is going to be durable or merely temporary.

Some problems call for replacement. There are times when repiping or a full water service replacement is called for, particularly with older galvanized systems prone to repeated failure. In such instances, we will advise on replacement to stave off structural damage or mold in the home rather than put on another patch.
The Case for Replacing a Leaking Line
You will find plenty of older homes in the area with galvanized piping. It is only a matter of time before they corrode from the inside, leading to low pressure and the same leaks coming back.
If we see evidence of a galvanized service at one end, the conclusion is often that a permanent fix means replacing the line. That is preferable to chasing down individual spots and incurring the waste of thousands of gallons of water down the road.
For a main service failure, we have both trenching and trenchless (bore/pipe-pulling) techniques to put in a new line with as little trouble as possible. We will run you through the pros and cons and take care of any permitting so you can decide what works best for your system.

We are happy to take a leak call and do the detection work, but you won’t find us touting the kind of specialized audio or gas equipment some firms put on display. We are selective about jobs that would call for commercial acoustic listening devices or other non-invasive rigs; we don’t keep them on hand for every job.

If the source is a buried galvanized service destined to fail again, we will be straight with you. We’ll recommend replacement over a short-term band-aid because we want the work to be dependable, not an excuse for a repeat visit.
